Project Description : Roller Rehab Bridge Bearing Service , 18th April, 2018.
Bearing rust removal, internal cleaning, painting, greasing and oiling. Report on service and any defects identified. Mark bearings to gauge future movement.
Ballast and debris was covering both sets of bearings on both abutments. The bearings could not be seen.
Pier 1 fixed bearing on the western side has sustained impact damage to the the girder gusset. As the damage is under the transoms it would appear it was sustained by an excavator or machinery used proximate to the bridge. This impact has misaligned girders and the fixed end bearing plates.
The impact has knocked span 2 girder about 15mm out of alignment as shown.
The misalignment of the fixed end bearing plates on both the eastern and western sides of pier 1 is consistent with the impact to the girder gusset nearby. There are no other bearings on this structure which have the same feature.
Before and After photos, the bearings are uncovered, de-rusted, cleaned and can now be oiled when required.
